Court Arrest (Jail Bharo Andholan) at New Delhi. Boycott of teachers' day celebration.
While the rest of the nation celebrates "Teachers Day" the college and university teachers across the country are struggling for betterment of higher education and for their basic rights.
After series of protests like observing Justice Day, Demand Day, Black Day during last sixth months, AIFUCTO and FEDCUTA, the parental organisations of all College and University teachers in India, called for boycotting teachers day and voluntarily surrender for
Court Arrest (
Jail Bharo Andholan) today at New Delhi. Thousands of teachers surrendered in Parliament street road Police station.
In solidarity, the Meghalaya College Teachers' Association expressed its support with colleagues taking part in this AIFUCTO Court Arrest Program by wearing
Black Badges and
boycotting “
Teachers’ Day” celebrations apart from holding meetings in their respective units.Teachers across India are concerned about the governments intentions of privatisation and corporatisation of higher education which include setting of HEFA and HEERA and granting of graded autonomy to university and colleges. Apart from this making NET/SLET mandatory for PhD registration teachers feel is detrimental for higher education and will deny many of our youth the opportunity to go for research.
It may be added that while the rest of the government employees are enjoying 7th CPC , college and university teachers across India have been denied the facilities and are forced to go to the streets and voluntary court arrest for the first time in history of this nation.
